Where is God when I Run?

Main Idea

The central theme of Pastor Pierce's message was the idea that our decisions lead us down different paths, and sometimes we choose the path of disobedience, like Jonah. However, God's love is so profound that He intervenes in our lives, often through challenging circumstances, to redirect us towards obedience and His plan for us. Pastor Pierce highlighted that no matter how far we've run, God is always ready to rescue us and restore us when we surrender and call out to Him.

Scripture References

Jonah 1:1-3, Jonah 1:4-5, Jonah 1:15-16, Jonah 1:17, Jonah 2:1-2, Hebrews 12:6, Romans 1:24

What are some decisions you've made that led you down a path away from God, and how did you realize it?

God will introduce any and all storms if it means getting your attention while you flee to Tarshish.

How can we recognize when God is intervening in our lives through challenging circumstances?

Discussion Questions:

In what ways can we support others who are struggling with the decision to follow God's call?

How does understanding God's discipline as an act of love change our perspective on difficult times?

What steps can we take to surrender to God when we find ourselves running towards disobedience?

When we have plunged deeper than we could have ever imagined, as we are sinking down into the pit of darkness, He is stooping down to meet us and bring us up from the pit.

Summary

In 'Where is God- When I Run,' Pastor Pierce explored the concept of life's decisions, big and small, and how they shape our journey. He introduced us to the new series 'Hey, God where are you?' focusing on the question of God's presence when we run towards disobedience. Using Jonah's story, Pastor Pierce related to the prophet's experience of being called by God, running away, and ultimately being rescued. He emphasized that God's love is relentless, and He will go to great lengths, including sending storms, to bring us back from the path of disobedience. Pastor Pierce shared personal anecdotes and biblical insights to illustrate how God's discipline is an act of love meant to guide us back to Him.

Call to Action

Some next steps to take this week:

Invite someone who is lost or running towards disobedience to 'get up and call on God,' perhaps by inviting them to Alpha or having a heart-to-heart conversation.

If you're on the road to Tarshish, collapse into the arms of the Father, let Him lead you back to the road designed for you, and be overwhelmed by His grace and mercy.
