Where Do I Fit

Main Idea

We often struggle to find where we fit, but God has already placed us in His spiritual house. Jesus, the living stone, was rejected by the world but chosen by God. Likewise, when we come to Him, we are also living stones, built together into His church. Our value is not determined by human acceptance but by God's calling. True belonging happens when we embrace our identity as priests, committed to interceding, teaching, and serving others. If we build our lives on Jesus, we will not be put to shame, but if we reject Him, we will stumble. Rather than resisting where God places us, we must trust His plan, allowing Him to shape and refine us for His greater purpose.

Scripture References

1 Peter 2:4-8, John 6:53, John 5:7, John 15:18, 1 John 4:20

Why do you think we often struggle with rejection, and how does Jesus' example encourage us?

If you build your life on Jesus, it will last—your relationships, your marriage, your purpose. But if you build around Him without truly making Him your foundation, you will stumble.

What does it mean to be a 'living stone' in God’s spiritual house, and how does this challenge individualistic faith?

Discussion Questions:

How can we ensure that we are building our lives on Jesus rather than just around Him?

What are some practical ways you can embrace your role as a priest, interceding and teaching others?

How does trusting God's placement in your life help you grow, even when you feel overlooked or rejected?

Jesus is the living stone, and no matter how many people reject Him, His value remains unchanged—just like your value isn’t determined by human acceptance.

Summary

Pastor Austin Feuerstein spoke about our deep desire to fit in and the struggle of rejection, both in the world and within the church. He emphasized that Jesus Himself was rejected—by His own people, by crowds, and even by His family—yet He remained chosen and precious to God. As followers of Jesus, we are also called 'living stones' being built into a spiritual house, meant to work together in unity. Pastor Austin reminded us that our affirmation must come from God alone, not from people. He encouraged us to embrace our role as priests, interceding for others, teaching by example, and helping to build up the church. Ultimately, he challenged us to build our lives on Jesus, the cornerstone, instead of temporary things that will fade away.

Call to Action

Some next steps to take this week:

Seek your affirmation from God alone, not from the approval of people.

Commit to being an active part of God’s spiritual house, working in unity with fellow believers.
