My Attitude: It's Yours

Pastor Michael

October 20, 2024

Main Idea

The central theme of Pastor Michael's message was the importance of cultivating a generous attitude that aligns with the Christian calling. He stressed that our attitudes towards generosity are a reflection of the abundance and condition of our hearts. By adopting an 'It's Yours' mindset, we acknowledge that everything we have is not our own but God's, and we are stewards of His blessings. Pastor Michael used the early Christian community in Acts 4:32 as an example of this principle, where believers shared everything in common, demonstrating a collective spirit of generosity.

Scripture References

Acts 4:32, Luke 6:45, Proverbs 4:23, Romans 12:1, Ephesians 5:15-16, 2 Corinthians 9:6-7, 1 Peter 4:10, Hebrews 13:2, Hebrews 10:24-25, Proverbs 11:25, Colossians 3:12-13, John 3:16, Romans 10:9

Do you see a connection between a generous life and a joyful life? If we are not joyful, does it mean that we are not generous?

The attitude of our life springs from the abundance and condition of our hearts.

When asked to share, do we sometimes judge those who request our time or possessions? Is a judging heart a selfish heart?

Discussion Questions:

How can we balance being both 'generous' and 'good stewards' of what God has given us?

Can you list the eight areas where we are to live generously in order of difficulty for you personally?

Do you ever feel lacking in 'gifts and talents' to share? Could this be an excuse? How can you identify your unique gifts?

When we realize that none of our life is 'mine' but all 'His', the abundance of Jesus in our hearts overflows into every area of our life.

Summary

In the sermon 'MY ATTITUDE: IT'S YOURS' by Pastor Michael at our church, we explored the connection between our attitudes and the concept of generosity, especially in the context of financial freedom. Pastor Michael encouraged us to examine our hearts and attitudes when faced with opportunities to be generous. He shared personal anecdotes and biblical insights to illustrate how our attitudes can either reflect a 'That's mine' mentality or an 'It's Yours' reality. He emphasized that as Christians, we are called to live lives of generosity across various aspects of our lives, including our time, money, possessions, gifts, talents, hospitality, encouragement, love, wisdom, knowledge, forgiveness, and grace.

Call to Action

Some next steps to take this week:

Reflect on areas of your life where you may have a 'That's mine' attitude and consider how you can shift towards an 'It's Yours' mentality.

Identify your unique gifts and talents and find ways to use them generously for the benefit of others in your community.
