Main Idea

The main idea of this message is that as Jesus' family, we should strive to build strong and loving connections with our community, following the example of Jesus and His Father.

Scripture References

Exodus 34:6-7a, 1 John 4:11, Ruth 1:14-17, Matthew 9:9-11, Luke 19:1-10, Revelation 3:20, Galatians 2:11-13, Matthew 25:34-40, 2 Corinthians 4:7-10, 2 Corinthians 12:7b-10.

How can we apply the concept of Khesed, or love and faithfulness in action, to our relationships with others?

Sick people, sinners, and failures flocked to Jesus because they sensed safety in His Khesed. When others closed the door, Jesus set the table.

Why do you think the Pharisees were critical of Jesus for eating with sinners and tax collectors?

Discussion Questions:

How can we follow Jesus' example of sharing our homes with others? Are there any barriers or challenges that may prevent us from doing so?

Why do you think our culture tends to focus on strengths rather than weaknesses? How can we shift our mindset to see weaknesses as an opportunity for God's power to work through us?

In what ways can we actively show Khesed to those around us, both in our community and beyond?

As a Jesus community, we should attach to weaknesses as well as strengths, as it allows God's power to work through us.

Summary

In this sermon, Pastor Tyler Minton from River City Church talks about the importance of building strong connections with our community. He explains the Hebrew word 'Khesed', which means 'love and faithfulness' and emphasizes how it goes beyond just an emotion and involves action towards someone in need. Pastor Tyler also shares three hacks for building a high-Khesed community: sharing our food, sharing our homes, and sharing our weaknesses. He uses scriptures from Exodus, 1 John, Ruth, Matthew, Luke, Revelation, Galatians, and 2 Corinthians to support his message.

Call to Action

Some next steps to take this week:

Let us strive to share our food, homes, and weaknesses with our community, just as Jesus did. By doing so, we can build a strong and loving community that reflects the love and faithfulness of God.

Let us also remember that our weaknesses should not be seen as a hindrance, but as an opportunity for God's power to work through us and bring us closer to Him.
