Main Idea

The main idea of Pastor Jacob's message is that in order to have a lasting and fulfilling marriage, we must live for purpose rather than pleasure, understand the purpose of marriage, view it as a covenant, understand the eternal laws of sowing and reaping, and be willing to die to ourselves.

Scripture References

2 Timothy 3:1-5, John 4:13-14, 1 John 2:17, Ephesians 5:25-26, Genesis 15:9

According to Pastor Jacob, why has the breakdown of the family happened?

The purpose of marriage is to show our spouse how much God loves them through us.

What does living for pleasure mean and why is it not healthy for us?

Discussion Questions:

How can we show our children a healthy and loving marriage?

What are the three loves in Greek and how do they relate to our purpose in life?

How can we apply the five principles shared by Pastor Jacob in all of our relationships, not just in marriage?

Our generation is all about pursuing pleasure at all costs, but we must remember that there are many pleasures in life that are only filling for a moment and not fulfilling in the long run.

Summary

Today, Pastor Jacob shared with us five counter culture principles to build a love that will last a lifetime. He reminded us that our generation's cry is for a happy and healthy family, and that God saw the breakdown of the family coming. These principles are not just for marriage, but for all of our relationships as well. Let's take a look at what he taught us.

Call to Action

Some next steps to take this week:

Let us strive to live for God's purpose in all of our relationships, including our marriages.

Let us be willing to sacrifice for our marriages and sow seeds of love and selflessness in order to reap a strong and lasting relationship.
